An online seminar for Turkmen journalists on media coverage of human rights issues has started its work. It is attended by employees of newspapers and magazines, television, online information publications, students of journalism faculties of Turkmen universities, as well as representatives of public associations.

The two-day course will introduce participants to international and regional human rights protection systems and the latest developments in this area. Media representatives will be presented with the Principles concerning the status of national institutions engaged in the promotion and protection of human rights, or in another way - the Paris Principles and their significance for journalists.

Since the seminar was organized by UNDP in cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan, a separate session will be devoted to the cooperation of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights with journalists, in which successful examples from this practice will be considered.

The interactive format of the event will allow participants to immediately apply their knowledge in practice.

The seminar is conducted by the scientific expert of the Council of Europe Stephanie Lemke.
