Addressing food safety issues, providing advisory and technical support in the preparation of national standards in this area were discussed during the visit of WHO expert Geronimas Maskelunas to Turkmenistan.

In particular, specialized specialists of Turkmenistan, together with a WHO consultant, reviewed the implementation of Codex Alimentarius standards, which is also called the "Food Code".

Codex Alimentarius is a set of internationally accepted standards in the food industry. Compliance with the standards of the Code confirms that the food product is safe and can be sold through a retail network. The members of the Code agree on scientifically based recommendations in all areas related to food safety and quality.
