Kazakhstan has restricted the passage of vehicles on the border with Turkmenistan at the Temir-Baba checkpoint in connection with the start of work on the modernization of border crossings, which by the end of 2024 will increase the capacity by 8-12 times.

At the same time, the State Revenue Department of the Mangystau region reports that the traffic is not completely blocked. The upgrade will reduce the border crossing time to a record 25 minutes.

Checkpoints are supposed to be equipped with the latest equipment for the recognition of individuals, baggage control, goods and cars. Modern data exchange systems and an automated control system for non-stop movement of vehicles will also be introduced.

New storage facilities, transport platforms, special quarantine parking lots will be erected near Temir Baba itself, as well as car traffic will be divided to exclude cases of crossing.
