Russian Railways increased the volume of cargo deliveries to Turkmenistan by 73%, and transit – by 3.5 times


"We attach paramount importance to the further development of a strong, long-term and sustainable partnership with our Turkmen colleagues," said Sergey Pavlov, First Deputy General Director of Russian Railways. He noted that the visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Russian Federation in July last year gave a powerful impetus to this cooperation.

Speaking at an international conference in Ashgabat on the transport and transit corridor, Pavlov named among the areas of joint work within the framework of program documents the development of transportation along the eastern branch of the North-South corridor, infrastructure projects, activities in the field of human resources and digital transformation of the industry.
As an example, he mentioned the pilot project modernization of the car repair plant in Gyzylarbat. The solution of this problem will allow several times to increase the capacity of this enterprise and bring it to a modern level.

Russian Railways also offers several projects on electrification, the development of a regional passenger railway express, proposals are being worked out to automate all business processes and digitalize Turkmen railways.
Speaking about the corridors, Sergey Pavlov said that Russia's foreign trade traffic along the North-South corridor increased by 62% last year, and by 70% in the first quarter of 2023.

The first quarter of this year, according to him, also showed a steady increase in the volume of cargo transportation from Russia to Turkmenistan - by 73%. Moreover, transit traffic through Turkmenistan has increased by 3.5 times.
