ESCAP, as a unique intergovernmental platform for regional cooperation on key issues related to the sustainable development of the region, seeks to help close connectivity gaps, especially for landlocked countries, including Turkmenistan, Armida Salsia Alisjabana, Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific said.
She sent a video message to the delegates of the transport conference taking place in Ashgabat, in which she said that the organization strongly supports regional initiatives and the efforts of countries in supporting international transit and transport corridors based on the spirit of mutual assistance and cooperation.

She congratulated Turkmenistan on its leadership role and ongoing efforts in managing a sustainable regional relationship within the UN, and also mentioned the successful joint work that led to the finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway corridor.
Today, this project supports the sustainability of transport and connects countries, opening up access to sea routes and opportunities to participate in regional and global trade.

The sustainability of international transit and transport corridors has begun to take center stage over the past few years, the multimodal use of transport has become a win-win strategy, the speaker noted.
- The digitalization of transport and logistics operations will allow us to further develop interconnection within the framework of the new ESCAP regional program for sustainable transport development, adopted at the 4th Ministerial Conference in December 2021, where ambitious goals are set, Armida Alisjabana said.

“I am inspired by the participation of the private sector and look forward to hearing opinions and ideas on new initiatives in a promising direction to create long-term mutually beneficial conditions for cooperation,” she added.
