The head of IMEO spoke about the potential of Turkmenistan in the field of reducing methane emissions

The head of the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) Manfredi Caltagirone noted the high potential of the Turkmen oil and gas sector to reduce methane emissions, speaking at the international investment forum of Turkmenistan in Dubai, UAE.
According to the expert, 6% of global methane emissions worldwide are accounted for by oil and gas. Speaking of mitigation potential, almost 75% of methane emissions from fossil fuels can be reduced using existing technologies and at no net cost.
The International Observatory on Methane Emissions has the appropriate tools that can help Turkmenistan realize its potential in reducing methane emissions on the eve of the UN Global Climate Change Conference COP-28, Caltagirone noted.
The International Methane Emissions Observatory is an initiative supported by UNEP that collects and analyzes data on methane emissions in different sectors and regions. IMEO publishes annual reports on how to reduce methane emissions and what actions need to be taken to do this.
The observatory also collaborates with various partners such as governments, the private sector and the scientific community to raise awareness of the methane problem and contribute to its mitigation.
