The fourth ministerial meeting of Afghanistan's neighboring countries, attended by the heads of the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan, Iran, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, was held on Thursday in Samarkand. The fourth ministerial meeting of Afghanistan's neighboring countries, attended by the heads of the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan, Iran, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, was held on Thursday in Samarkand. The Turkmen Foreign Ministry was represented at the talks by Deputy Minister Vepa Hajiyev, the official Uzbek press reports.

One of the important topics of the meeting was the fight against international terrorism, drug production and smuggling in Afghanistan. In addition, the participants discussed the current situation in the country and the fulfillment of the main requirements of the world community by the current Afghan government - the creation of an inclusive government, ensuring access of Afghan women to work and education, respect for the rights of national minorities.

The Foreign Ministers agreed that the countries need to combine actions to restore the country's economy and help the Afghan people. In particular, the sides called for the implementation of infrastructure and socio-economic projects on the territory of Afghanistan with the participation of neighboring states, which will contribute to the creation of new jobs and the active integration of this country into regional economic processes.

The Ministers noted the important role of Kabul in the interconnectedness between Central and South Asia. In this regard, they stressed the need to develop a mechanism for joint actions to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and restore the national economy of the country.

Recall that the first meeting of the foreign ministers of neighboring countries with Afghanistan was held in September 2021 in the format of a videoconference, the second — in Tehran in October 2021, the third — in March 2022 in the Chinese city of Tunxi. Following its results, joint documents were adopted - the statement of the parties and the "Tunxi Initiative" to support the economic reconstruction of Afghanistan.
