Kazakhstan is ready to discuss with Russia and Turkmenistan the issue of building a highway along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea, if an appropriate proposal is received. Almaz Idyrysov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan, stated this to RIA Novosti.

At the end of March, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin told RIA Novosti that the Russian Federation plans to discuss with Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan the construction of a highway bypassing the Caspian Sea at the meeting Russia-Islamic World: “KazanForum” in May, signing an agreement is possible.

"The ministry is ready to discuss the issue of building a highway along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea in case of initiation of preliminary negotiations by the interested parties," Idyrysov said.

At the same time, he noted that the route bypassing the Caspian Sea will allow establishing uninterrupted communication, as well as increasing the transport potential between the countries.

Idyrysov explained that the Kazakh side along this route is now carrying out work on the reconstruction of the section of the road "Atyrau - the border of the Russian Federation (to Astrakhan)" with a completion date of 2024.

"Until 2030, it is planned to implement projects for the reconstruction of the Zhanaozen-Kenderli-Turkmenistan border and Atyrau-Dossor roads," the deputy minister said.

At the end of January, following the results of the working trip of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Khusnullin to Turkmenistan, it became known that the countries were discussing a joint road project - the construction of a highway along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea.
