New fiber-optic Internet cable worth $500 million will connect China and France

Chinese state-owned telecommunications companies are planning to lay an underwater fiber-optic Internet cable that will connect Asia, the Middle East and Europe, Reuters reports.
The laying of the $500 million cable will begin on the territory of mainland China and will stretch to France, bypassing Hong Kong, Singapore, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
According to sources, HMN Technologies Co Ltd, whose controlling stake belongs to the famous Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, will take responsibility for the implementation of the project. The customers will be the three largest telecom operators in China.
At the moment, more than 95% of all global Internet traffic passes through underwater cables that belong to global telecommunications companies. This advanced infrastructure provides high-speed and reliable data transmission over extremely long distances.
