Belarusian scientists have made a breakthrough in the treatment of oncology - they are actively using cellular immunotherapy as an effective method of combating oncology, the Belarusian bureau of the MIR24 TV channel tells.

The Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering offers two options for immunotherapy: the first is the creation of dendritic cell vaccines that stimulate the immune system to destroy tumor formations, and the second is the introduction of killer cells into the body that attack malignant formations.

The first tests with dendritic cells in Belarus began in 2008. Two years later, the vaccine was successfully tested on a cancerous tumor. Today, scientists create it in the laboratory from the cell of a patient who has not yet undergone chemotherapy, since after it the functional properties of blood decrease. And this, in turn, reduces the chance of obtaining healthy dendritic cells and multiplying them in a short period, said Andrey Goncharov, director of the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

In the near future, the country plans to create its own bank of donor dendritic cells. Now Belarusian scientists are working on the next stage of cell therapy – they plan to combine dendritic and "killer" options in the treatment of cancer and hope for even greater clinical success.
