Experts have proposed the first "green" standard for the construction of hotels in Turkmenistan


A draft version of the first "green" standard of Turkmenistan for the construction and operation of hotel buildings was presented during a working meeting organized by UNDP within the framework of the project "Sustainable cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated development of green cities in Ashgabat and Avaza".
The introduction of green standards in the hotel sector of Turkmenistan is designed to increase the efficiency of energy consumption in hotels and contribute to the country's efforts to combat climate change within the framework of the Paris Climate Agreement.
The document implies the creation of environmentally safe conditions for living in the buildings of hotels and hotel complexes of Turkmenistan, the introduction of a "green" standard for the assessment of hotel buildings and hotel complexes in the country according to the principles of sustainable construction.
The "green" categories of hotel buildings or hotel complexes are formed according to ten criteria, taking into account international best practices. These criteria include:
— architecture and planning of the surrounding space,
— organization and management of construction,
— environmental friendliness of construction, finishing materials and procurement,
— energy efficiency of buildings and equipment,
— energy supply from renewable sources and greenhouse gas emissions,
— efficient water use,
— reuse of liquid and organic waste,
— landscaping of the surrounding area,
— building operation safety,
— comfort and quality of living.
The project "Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza" is being implemented by the UN Development Program jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.
