Almaty will become the cultural capital of the SCO for 2023-2024


Almaty will become the cultural and tourist capital of the SCO for 2023-2024. The ministers of culture of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization supported the proposal of Askhat Oralov, the Acting Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan, to assign a new status to the city, which he initiated at an online meeting of the heads of the ministries of culture of the SCO, Kazinform reports.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Pakistan, India and China, as well as SCO Deputy Secretary General Janesh Kane, who also supported Askhat Oralov's proposal.
The Kazakh authorities have already prepared a plan for cultural events to be held in Almaty in the next two years. The city will become a platform for international tourist and cultural festivals, music marathons and other events, the Kazakh minister said.
Recall that from July 2023 to July 2024, Kazakhstan will chair the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
