A new coronal hole has been discovered on the surface of the Sun, which is 20 times the size of the Earth, the Daily Mail reports with reference to NASA.

The plasma stream that escaped from it moves at a speed of 2.9 million kilometers per hour. The solar wind will reach our planet on March 31 or April 1. It will provoke a magnetic storm.

At the same time, according to forecasts, most of the plasma flow will pass the Earth and the storm will not be strong.

Such coronal holes are not uncommon, they usually appear near the poles of the Sun. However, the last hole appeared at the equator, which indicates that auroras are expected on Earth. They are caused by the fact that the particles of the Sun fly through the Solar System and interact with the earth's atmosphere.

This is the second giant coronal hole recorded on the star recently. The first (30 times larger than Earth) was discovered on the Sun on March 23.
