"With the opening of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Budapest today, all member countries of the Organization of Turkic States now have diplomatic representations in Hungary," Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said at the opening ceremony of the embassy, which was broadcast on Facebook.

In addition to Szijjarto, the opening was attended by Hungarian Economic Development Minister Marton Nagy and Acting Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov, who became the first Uzbek foreign minister to visit Hungary in 31 years of diplomatic relations.

Szijjarto recalled that Hungary is creating a special industrial zone near Tashkent, where Hungarian companies will be given a special legal status to invest in such areas as the food industry, agriculture, the nuclear industry, the production of medicines and medical equipment, and the construction industry. In addition, he noted that the largest Hungarian bank OTP recently acquired the fifth largest financial institution in Uzbekistan, Ipoteka-bank.

The Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council), established in 2009, decided to change its name to the Organization of Turkic States in November 2021 at the Istanbul Summit. The organization includes Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Hungary participate as observers.
