Turkmenistan was represented at the regional seminar on countering drug trafficking


Turkmenistan, along with other Central Asian countries, was represented at a regional seminar on countering illicit drug trafficking and the latest psychoactive substances.
The two-day event was organized by the OSCE in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). He gathered about a hundred representatives of relevant ministries and departments to discuss best practices in combating new drug threats.
In particular, experts from Turkey, Italy and the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center discussed the existing regional mechanisms for countering drug trafficking, modern border control systems for detecting new psychoactive substances.
During the event, representatives of UNODC, the Department for Countering Transnational Threats of the OSCE Secretariat, the Border Management Program in Central Asia and the Anti-Drug Action Program in Central Asia presented projects aimed at solving the drug threat problem.
"We hope that the seminar will become a platform for expanding international and regional cooperation in order to counter the impact of the world drug problem on regional security, stability and economic prosperity," John McGregor, head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, said in his opening speech, noting that the world drug problem remains a common and joint responsibility that requires effective and wider international cooperation.
It should be noted that the regional training seminar was organized within the framework of an extra-budgetary multi-donor project of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat "Strengthening the capacity of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan" with the financial support of the Government of Japan.
