President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved a proposal to build a new power plant with a capacity of 1,574 megawatts with a combined combined cycle on the territory of the Balkan region.

The proposal was presented at a meeting of the Turkmen government on Friday by Deputy Prime Minister Baymurad Annamammedov. The creation of a new generating unit is provided for by the Investment Program of Turkmenistan for 2023 and is aimed at meeting the growing needs of the country in electricity and the constantly rising demand for it from importing states.

Turkmenistan's first combined combined-cycle power plant with an annual capacity of 1574 MW went into operation in 2018, in Mary, becoming one of the largest energy facilities in Central Asia.

Combined power plants in comparison with conventional gas analogues have a number of advantages — they are more environmentally friendly and economical and productive.
