Iran and Saudi Arabia sign agreement to resume diplomatic relations
Iran and Saudi Arabia have signed an agreement to resume diplomatic relations, with plans to reopen embassies within two months, according to a statement released by the Iranian government.
It is noted that the joint statement was signed after several days of negotiations between Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani and his Saudi counterpart in Beijing. Following the talks, they agreed to resume diplomatic relations and open embassies and representative offices within two months.
It is noted that the foreign ministers of the two states intend to meet to discuss the implementation of the agreement.
"Following the negotiations, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia agreed to resume their diplomatic relations and open embassies and representative offices within a maximum of two months," the text of the statement of Iran, Saudi Arabia and China says.
It is noted that the parties, within the framework of the new agreement, will also activate agreements on cooperation in various fields, signed in 1998 and 2001.
