The CIS Secretary General held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan


Preparations for the elections of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and members of local representative bodies of power, interaction within the CIS were discussed by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev during negotiations on Friday.

As head of the Mission of Observers from the CIS, Lebedev expressed gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for creating favorable conditions for monitoring the election campaign, including directly at places.
According to observers who have been working in the country since March 8, the preparations for the elections and early voting are taking place in an organized, dignified manner, without violations or comments. This gives grounds for the mission to express confidence that the upcoming elections on March 26 will be held at a high level, and the citizens of the country will elect the most worthy people.

In continuation of the conversation, the parties checked the schedule of joint events, considered the agenda of meetings in the CIS format, including the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS in Samarkand, scheduled for April 14, and the participation of the Turkmen side in other integration events of the Commonwealth at the highest and high levels, upcoming in this year.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the minister and the CIS Secretary General also exchanged views on the construction of the city of Arkadag, designed to become the first model of a smart city in the country.
