KAMAZ will develop models of an SUV and a bus powered by natural gas for Gazprom

KAMAZ will develop models of an intercity bus and an off-road vehicle powered by natural gas for Gazprom. Such plans are provided for by a new agreement on cooperation between the two companies, the press service of Gazprom reported.
Buses are supposed to be used to deliver employees on public roads to workplaces located at a considerable distance from public transport infrastructure. Off–road vehicles are used as a universal transport for solving production tasks in hard-to-reach areas. The parties will work out technical solutions for the design composition and configuration of new models, conduct tests of pilot samples.
On Wednesday, a working meeting was held between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Board, and Sergey Kogogin, CEO of KAMAZ. The parties discussed the progress and prospects of cooperation aimed at developing the gas engine fuel market in Russia.
It is noted that at the initiative of Gazprom, KAMAZ has established serial production of a wide range of cars and equipment powered by natural gas. Today, the plant produces about 130 models of such vehicles – more than half of the range of all Russian-made gas-powered vehicles.
Since 2014, Gazprom has been systematically purchasing KAMAZ gas-powered vehicles to upgrade the fleets of its subsidiaries. In particular, these are on-board cars, truck tractors and dump trucks. The parties pay special attention to the production of models of innovative gas-powered vehicles. So, by order of Gazprom, KAMAZ manufactured a batch of KAMAZ-5490 NEO mainline tractors on liquefied natural gas for the transportation of isothermal containers with liquid helium.
