President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highly appreciated the strong relations between Turkmenistan and the State of Qatar, which have reached dynamic development in recent years. “Today, there are all conditions for bringing these relations to a level corresponding to the capabilities of the large economies of the two countries,” the head of Turkmenistan said at a meeting with members of the Qatar Businessmen Association and the Qatar Chamber at the Sheraton Hotel in Doha.

Qatar is one of the reliable partners of Turkmenistan, and the presence of a large number of Qatari businessmen at this meeting indicates their interest in cooperation with their Turkmen counterparts, Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, pointing out that there are many opportunities for investment in Turkmenistan in various sectors, primarily in energy, in areas of renewable energy and urban construction, industry, agriculture and textile industry.

President Berdimuhamedov drew the attention of Qatari companies to the possibility of participating in international projects of transport networks and gas pipelines, which are being implemented by Turkmenistan, as a country rich in natural resources and striving to use them optimally. In this area, there are good prospects for cooperation with large Arab oil and gas companies such as Qatar Petroleum.

Turkmenistan is also interested in studying and drawing on the extensive experience of Qatar in the field of the financial system, insurance and stock exchanges. The President invited businessmen of the two countries to work out the issue of creating a joint Turkmen-Qatari business council, noting the important role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Qatari Commission, which will hold its next meeting in Ashgabat.

According to the head of state, this will play an important role in expanding cooperation between businessmen of the two countries, adding: “We should consider the existing opportunities for increasing the volume of trade exchange through the joint implementation of projects, especially in the field of oil and gas production in the Caspian Sea, the construction of petrochemical productions".

For his part, Mohammed bin Tawar Al Kuwari, First Vice President of the Qatar Chamber, said that Qatar and Turkmenistan have a close relationship, which is reflected in mutual visits at the level of leadership, government officials and representatives of the private sector, as well as through agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries in various fields. However, this does not reflect the full potential of mutual trade and cooperation, for the development of which there is a favorable investment climate in both countries.

He noted that the Qatari and Turkmen private sectors can play an important role in developing these relations through the establishment of partnerships, trade alliances and investment projects, urging Qatari and Turkmen companies to expand contacts, benefit from the strong relations between the two countries and a business environment that encourages investment in all sectors.

Mohammed bin Tawar Al Kuwari also called on Turkmen companies to invest in Qatar, especially given the world-class infrastructure, attractive economic legislation in addition to the existence of logistics, free and industrial zones, which provide many investment incentives, especially after Qatar's successful hosting of the World Cup 2022.

He stressed that the Qatari private sector welcomes the strengthening of cooperation with their Turkmen counterparts in various areas, including agriculture, industry, tourism, real estate, banks, etc., and is ready to explore the investment opportunities available in Turkmenistan.

Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser Al Thani, board member of the Qatar Business Association, said that the past decade has seen an increase in mutual visits between officials from the two countries, reflecting the degree of mutual interest. More than 17 agreements and memorandums of understanding have been signed to support this cooperation, including in the economic, trade, cultural and sports fields.

He also noted that the Qatar Businessmen Association of Entrepreneurs seeks to learn more about the investment opportunities of Turkmenistan in order to form a joint committee to determine the most relevant investment projects.

During the meeting, many specific proposals were voiced, including the opening of a representative office in Ashgabat of one of the largest transport and logistics companies in Qatar.
