Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met on Wednesday with newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Israel Ismail Khaldi, who presented copies of his credentials.

The diplomats discussed the state and prospects of Turkmen-Israeli cooperation, noted the positive experience of cooperation within the framework of multilateral platforms, according to the website of the country's Foreign Ministry.

In order to intensify trade and economic ties, the expediency of creating an intergovernmental commission was emphasized. Healthcare and medicine, the scientific and educational sector are highlighted as promising areas. The guest also expressed his country's interest in organizing the Days of Israeli Culture in Turkmenistan in the future.

Earlier, in early March, the Israeli international TV channel i24NEWS reported that Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen would soon travel to Turkmenistan to officially open a permanent Israeli embassy in Ashgabat, the country's capital.

Prior to this announcement, the Director of the Eurasia Department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry paid a working visit to Ashgabat and held extensive consultations, meeting with the Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the Interior, the Minister of Health and other officials, discussing the intensification of bilateral relations and regional issues.

The new Israeli ambassador to Turkmenistan replaces Beth-Eden Kait, who has been in this position for less than a year.
