Iranian Sanan Theater: Ashgabat festival reflects shared cultural values
The festival in Ashgabat has become a reflection of shared cultural values, said Ali Akbar Khodashenas, head of the Sanan drama group in an interview with ORIENT at the opening ceremony of the large theater marathon in the Turkmen capital.
- The meeting with Ashgabat, where theater troupes from different countries arrived these days, is an extraordinary surprise for me. This is my first time in Turkmenistan and I am impressed by your warm hospitality. The Turkmen and Iranian peoples have much in common in history, culture, traditions, therefore it is especially interesting for me to see the modern stage works of directors and artists of Turkmenistan, Khodashenas noted.
- One can only welcome such a multicultural project as an international theater festival. After all, it will serve as a rapprochement of the peoples of the world, which means there will be more mutual understanding on our planet. Therefore, I want to wish the Ashgabat festival to gather more and more friends from year to year, delight the audience and always be such a bright holiday of friendship and art, as it is now. And for our troupe, it’s also a great opportunity to get acquainted with different areas of the theater’s development, learn something, discover something for ourselves,” the director added.
The III International Theater Festival, the grand opening of which took place today in the Main Drama Theater of Turkmenistan, gathered creative groups from 12 countries. These are: Afghanistan, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russian Federation, USA, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Estonia. Turkmen theaters will also show their performances.
