Turkmenistan and Luxembourg to expand economic contacts, including in the IT field


The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg Sapar Palvanov met with the Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce Cindy Tereba. The diplomat held a presentation of the new Turkmen city of Arkadag, the administrative center of the Akhal region. Noting that this city will be the first in the country to have the status of a “smart”, environmentally friendly city, Palvanov invited Luxembourg companies to participate in joint investment projects using high-tech solutions in the field of digitalization, IT, and also called for exploring the possibility of interaction in the field of systems management” smart city.

Stressing that Luxembourg is one of the leaders in the development of IT technologies, Cindy Tereba expressed the opinion that the companies of the Grand Duchy would certainly be interested in cooperation with Turkmenistan in this area and will prepare their proposals for managing the smart city of Arkadag. She noted that the Chamber takes an active part in creating opportunities and tools for bilateral cooperation and is ready to assist Luxembourg companies in entering the Turkmen market.
During the meeting, the parties also concluded that it is necessary to create a platform for establishing contacts between the business circles of the two states, exploring opportunities and potentials, as well as searching for the most mutually beneficial areas for investment.

One of the outcomes of the meeting was an agreement to organize a round table in Luxembourg or Ashgabat in the near future, which will bring together the heads of interested companies and financial institutions of the Duchy, the business community and the economic bloc of Turkmenistan for more substantive discussions of counter proposals.
The Ambassador and Director for International Relations of the TP of Luxembourg noted the relevance of establishing closer contacts between Turkmenistan and the Western European state, primarily focusing on the prospects for trade and economic partnership against the backdrop of changes in the geo-economic situation in the world. Sapar Palvanov confirmed that Turkmenistan sees in Luxembourg and the European Union as a whole, a reliable partner in the economy.
