The Russian national team will perform at the first championship of the Football Association of Central Asia
The Russian national football team will take part in the first championship of the Football Association of Central Asia (CAFA) among men's teams, the press service of the Football Federation of Tajikistan reports.
The championship, which will be held in Bishkek and Tashkent from June 9 to 21, will feature the member countries of the Football Association of Central Asia: Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan.
The Russian national team has confirmed its participation in this tournament. In addition, it is planned to invite one of the Asian national teams.
According to the regulations, the eight teams will be divided into two quartets of four teams each. The winners of the two groups will meet in the final. The teams that became the second in their quartets will compete for the third place.
On February 2022, the International Football Federation and UEFA excluded Russian national teams and clubs from the draws of international tournaments. On December 30, the RFU created a working group to familiarize itself with the process of transition from UEFA to the Asian Football Confederation.
