The Turkmen delegation participates in the events of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Manama


The Turkmen delegation headed by Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Gurbanmyrat Ashyrov is taking part in the meetings of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which takes place from March 11 to 15 in the capital of Bahrain - Manama. Representatives of 117 national parliaments participate in the work of the Assembly.
The general debate of the IPU Assembly is focused on the theme "Promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies: combating intolerance". During his speech at the plenary session of the IPU Assembly, the Vice-Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan stressed that at present, parliaments of various countries play a big role in ensuring peace and sustainable development, confronting the problems and challenges of our time. He noted that the most important priorities of Turkmenistan's state policy are issues of ensuring stability and harmony in society, strengthening the foundations of democracy, democracy and law, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

The head of the delegation of Turkmenistan also participated in the second conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, during which issues of parliamentary support for national and global efforts to recover from the pandemic, as well as problems of improving the Parliamentary Network of NAM were discussed.
Speaking at the representative forum, Gurbanmyrat Ashyrov noted the great opportunities for inter-parliamentary cooperation in the implementation of agreements between states and governments, in the rapprochement of cultures and the strengthening of friendly relations between peoples and countries. As it was emphasized at the same time, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group on Combating COVID-19, held in Baku in early March, outlined specific positions and proposals of Turkmenistan in this direction and called for the search for new adequate mechanisms of relations between states and international institutions to overcome this difficult situation.

As the head of the parliamentary delegation of Turkmenistan further noted in his speech, currently the parliaments of all countries support the efforts of states to restore in the post-pandemic period. And in this regard, it is advisable to exchange national experience on issues aimed at strengthening universal peace, security and sustainable development.
