In order to continue the dialogue on supporting the efforts of the Government of Turkmenistan to fulfill its international obligations under the Paris Climate Agreement, the fifth Coordination Meeting of the Climate Group of Development Partners was held.

The meeting was organized by the UNDP in Turkmenistan jointly with the British Embassy in the country. It provided a platform for discussing the actions of development partners in the field of climate change and environmental protection.

The event discussed the measures taken by the country following the results of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) held last November in Egypt (Sharm el-Sheikh) and preparations for the upcoming meeting to be held in Dubai, UAE, in November this year.

"Last year we supported Turkmenistan in developing and presenting an updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)," the UNDP Permanent Representative to Turkmenistan Narine Sahakyan noted in her speech, stressing that UNDP will continue this important dialogue to accelerate joint efforts to support Turkmenistan in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fulfilling commitments under the Paris Agreement.

The readiness to continue cooperation with key partners in supporting Turkmenistan's efforts to fulfill climate commitments and increase the level of ambitions ahead of the next UN Climate Change Conference was also expressed by British Ambassador to Turkmenistan Lucia Wild. The diplomat noted the importance of combining collective efforts in the fight against climate change and loss of biodiversity.
