Global Development Center: poverty can be defeated by 2050

The Center for Global Development (CGD) has published a new report, according to which, the current economic growth rates will be able to finally eradicate poverty by 2050. The major share of market development will belong to middle-income countries.
Experts took into account historical, demographic and socio-geographical factors, thanks to which they were able to determine that people with an income of $2 per day will increase their human capital by 4 times by the middle of the century.
The rate of the poor in Africa should fall to a historic low of 7% against 29% of the current. At the same time, it is noted that the incomes of the population of developed countries will grow more slowly. So, by that time, their GDP per capita will grow by only 20%, and developing countries — by 40%.
"The level of global poverty was declining until three years ago, when it began to rise again due to many factors - including, which is important to take into account, both due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. And again, it turns out to be quite difficult to reduce it," writes expert Charles Kenny, senior researcher at CGD.
In addition to statistical forecasts, representatives of the structure in their work emphasize the coordinated work of social groups, which is important for the safety of individual citizens, since the well-being of people is not measured by economic factors alone.
