Turkmenistan and IRU are working to improve customs activities in the country

Turkmenistan and the International Union of Road Transport (IRU) are successfully cooperating in the development and digitalization of the customs sphere in the country, according to the website of the "Turkmenavtoulaglary" agency of the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
"We have cooperated with the Customs and other state bodies of Turkmenistan in the field of the introduction of "green lanes", which provide the advantages of priority Customs clearance," commented Tatiana Rey-Belle, Head of the Department of International Road Transport (TIR) and Transit Systems of the IRU, on the joint work.
Currently, five customs points of Turkmenistan are connected to the international digital system TIR-EPD developed by the IRU. In particular, the posts "Artyk" (on the border with Iran), "Parom Gechelgesi" ("Ferry passage") (in the Turkmenbashi seaport), "Farap avtoyollary" (on the border with Uzbekistan), "Sarakhs avtoyollary" (on the border with Iran) and "Garabogaz" (on the border with Kazakhstan).
In Turkmenistan, the TIR-EPD application was launched in 2022. This service allows holders of TIR Carnets (TIR), a Customs transport document that entitles the carrier to international movement of goods, to send electronic preliminary information about transportation to the Customs authorities of all countries of the route simultaneously.
"This is a very important step that allowed Turkmenistan to join other projects related to the digitalization of the TIR in the region," Rey-Belle said.
