Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen is expected to travel to Turkmenistan soon to officially open a permanent Israeli embassy in Ashgabat, the country's capital. This was announced on Friday by the Israeli international round-the-clock news channel i24NEWS.
About ten years ago, Israel opened a temporary embassy in Ashgabat. The permanent building was built specifically for the future embassy, the TV channel notes.
Over the years, Israeli and Turkmen high-ranking officials have visited each other's countries, signing agreements on cooperation in politics, economics and energy. Recently, progress has been made in cooperation in the field of health and in the field of cyber defense.
In an interview with Israel Hayom (Israel Today), Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said that "the relationship between Israel and Turkmenistan is of great and strategic importance and is part of an effort to strengthen relations with the entire region."
“We will continue to develop economic cooperation between countries, including in the field of healthcare and cyber defense,” the diplomat said.
"The opening of the embassy building is another sign of the strengthening of relations between Israel and Turkmenistan and marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the countries," Cohen emphasized.
This week, the Director of the Eurasia Department of the Israeli Foreign Ministry paid a working visit to Ashgabat and held extensive consultations, meeting with deputy ministers of foreign affairs, interior, the minister of health and other officials, discussing the intensification of bilateral relations and regional issues.
