General elections in Turkey are scheduled for May 14. The corresponding decree was signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, local media reported.

The Supreme Electoral Council (YSK) is expected to meet on Saturday to announce the election date to the public. If there is a second round, the elections will be held on May 28.

The election campaign may begin on March 16 or 18.

Lists of parliamentary candidates must be submitted to the Supreme Electoral Council by April 9. But this period may change depending on the start date of the campaign.

According to preliminary opinion polls, the current President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is leading in the election race. The leader among the parties is the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Parti).
