The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in an open debate of the UN Security Council on the topic "Women, peace and security: on the 25th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325". This is reported by the official website of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN.

The open debate was organized on the initiative of Mozambique, which is chairing the UN Security Council this month. They were attended by over 80 delegations of UN member States.

Speaking at the discussions, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Aksoltan Atayeva stressed the importance of the work of the Dialogue of Women of Central Asian countries within the framework of the global agenda "Women, Peace and Security". It was established in December 2020 with the support of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia. Last November, the Dialogue Delegation took part in a special session of the UN Peacebuilding Commission and parallel events with it.

Drawing attention to the need to further promote the agenda "Women, peace and security", strengthening coordination in this area between specialized UN structures, the participants pointed to the expediency of involving women in the formation of the "New Agenda for Peace" initiated by the UN Secretary-General. The sides also stressed the importance of further development of such associations on the UN platform as the Group of Friends "Women, Peace and Security".
