A member of the politics bureau of the central committee of the Communist Party, Vo Van Thuong, has been elected the new president of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. 487 out of 488 deputies of the National Assembly voted for him, which is 98.38%. This is reported by the world media with reference to the Vietnamese News Agency.

With the election to the post of President of Vietnam, Vo Van Thuong simultaneously became Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council. He replaced 69-year-old Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who resigned in January.

The new president was born on December 13, 1970 in the Vietnamese province of Vinlong. Over the years, Vo Van Truong held various leadership positions in the Union of Communist Youth of Vietnam, in local party organizations and in the central office of the CPV, was elected a member of the Central Committee of the CPV of the 11th, 12th and 13th convocations.
