The first Asian-Pacific martial arts deaf championship started in Kyrgyzstan

For the first time in the sports life of Kyrgyzstan, the 1st Asian-Pacific Championship among the deaf in taekwondo, judo, Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling is being held. From March 1-12, about 300 athletes from eight countries of the world will compete for the right to become the best in martial arts in Bishkek, Kyrgyz media reported.
The first days of the surdo championship are held in taekwondo. Outwardly, these competitions are no different from the usual ones - the same rules, the same blows. The only addition is that after the referee's command, a red lantern lights up. These athletes rely only on visual cues due to hearing problems. They also do not hear the tips and commands of the coach, so they can only rely on themselves during sparring.
Among the participants of the tournament there are beginners, as well as athletes with experience and winners of various championships. Competitions in judo, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling will follow taekwondo The tournament is official, so athletes earn rating points to participate in the next Deaf Olympics.
Kyrgyzstan paid due attention to surdosport relatively recently. Now across the country there are no more than 400 athletes with a hearing impairment, of which only 50 are engaged professionally.
