Registration of candidates for the elections to the Parliament of Turkmenistan has been completed


On February 28, the registration of candidates for the elections of deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, members of regional, district, city halk maslahaty and Gengesh - bodies of local representative power and local self-government - was completed.
The registration of candidates was carried out by the relevant election commissions in accordance with democratic principles. There are a total of 7,222 electoral districts in the country, including 125 for the election of deputies of parliament, 240 for the election of members of the halk maslahaty of the regions and the city of Ashgabat, 960 for the election of members of the halk maslahaty of districts and cities with district rights, 5897 for the election of members of Gengesh. There will be two candidates in each district, and in some even more.
The registered candidates were awarded certificates in a solemn atmosphere, the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan reports.
According to ORIENT, a total of 14,872 candidates have been nominated and registered across the country, including 258 candidates for deputies of the national parliament.
Candidates ran from the Democratic Party, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Agrarian Party, as well as groups of citizens living in a certain electoral district.
The next stage of the election campaign is the meeting of candidates with voters.
The elections will be held on March 26, with the participation of international and national observers.
