The Turkmen karateka won a bronze medal at the tournament in the UAE


Turkmen karate player Erkin Taganov won the bronze medal of the first stage of the Karate Youth League 1, which was held from February 23 to 26 in Fujairah (UAE).
Taganov achieved bronze in the weight category up to 52 kg in the kumite (combat sparring) discipline. A student of the 9th grade of the 55th secondary school of Ashgabat in the preliminary rounds of the tournament prevailed over karate players from Iran, Kuwait and the UAE.
The Turkmen karateka lost only at the semifinal stage to the Belgian Matt Rombeks, who later became the champion, having won the final match over the representative of Uzbekistan Humayunmirzo Halimov. Another winner of the bronze medal was karateka from Kazakhstan Aidarbek Dinmukhammedov.
The Karate Youth League 1 is a series of competitions held under the auspices of the International Karate Federation. Over 1100 athletes from 67 countries took part in the competition. The team of the Turkmen national team at this stage of the championship was represented by 20 karate players under the leadership of Bayram Yalkapov.
