In April, Japan will launch a pilot program to test the use of the digital yen, Japan Today reports, referring to the country's central bank.

The widely expected move followed two years of experiments by the main bank of the Land of the Rising Sun to issue a digital yen.

According to the bank's executive director Shinichi Uchida, within the framework of the pilot project, which is designed for several years, the institution will make simulated transactions with individuals, hold discussions not only with commercial banks, but also with non-bank settlement companies and carriers.

According to Uchida, experiments with real transactions between retailers and consumers are not excluded in the future.

It should be noted that the US Federal Reserve is also exploring the possibility of launching a fully digital dollar, the so-called Fedcoin.
