Caring for homeless animals helps people to remain people

I read with interest the message of the Tajik news portal ASIA-Plus about the establishment in Dushanbe of a shelter for homeless animals. Obviously, the same problems exist in all major cities of the world,  and one of the most common and acute is the problem of homeless animals. It is also true that there are enough good people everywhere who, by their active position, their conscientiousness, do not give "rest" to others, draw our attention to these problems, call on the authorities and society to show mercy to pets who have lost both their masters and their home . Last year, caring residents of the Tajik capital addressed an open letter to the mayor's office with a request to show humanism and solve the problem of helping homeless animals. I must say that, to the credit of the mayor's office, the city authorities responded to the appeal - the relevant services of the city were instructed to determine the ways of solving this problem in the shortest time. And recently the city authorities have allocated a land plot for the construction of a shelter for homeless animals. Of course, the work is not yet an open region, and there will still be many difficulties ahead, but, as they say, the the beginning is the most difficult. Here you can only wish the residents of Dushanbe success in this noble cause. In this regard, the events of half a year ago come to mind when, in August of last year, ORIENT reported that the first center for helping homeless animals, "Island of Hope", was officially registered in Ashgabat. The creator and leader of this private center was Tatiana Galberg - a woman who can not pass by a suffering animal. Judge for yourself, at the time of the "Island of Hope", Tatyana's summer cottage in the suburb of Ashgabat, where she lives with her husband and two daughters, contained more than 100 dogs and about 50 cats picked from the streets. I must say that the "Island of Hope" was lucky, in the sense that this humanitarian initiative received a positive response in the Turkmen society. So, the state institutions began to render various assistance to the center - food, treatment, vaccination, etc. What changes have occurred in the life of the Ashgabat center for homeless animals in these six months? To date, the center of "Island of Hope" has been allocated 2 hectares of land, indoor and outdoor enclosures, as well as two houses have already been duilt. The number of animals under care has also increased. Today the Galberg family takes care of 160 dogs and 65 cats. The center is developing, being built, although maybe not as fast as we would like. One more good news that will improve the life of homeless animals and make people, for whom the word charity is not just a word, happy is that in Ashgabat, work has begun on a project to create a shelter for homeless animals under the care of the state. Caring for homeless animals is, of course, very important, in the sense that it will save and improve the lives of many street dogs and cats who were once home pets. But here it is important to understand that caring for animals that have lost their home and owner is also needed for people, just to stay human.
