The second "Structural Dialogue" between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the UK is taking place in Ashgabat on February 22-23. The British delegation at the talks is headed by Justin Mackenzie Smith, Deputy Head of the Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the British Foreign Ministry, according to a press release published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The British diplomats met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev. The sides exchanged views on issues such as bilateral relations and regional policy, trade and economic cooperation and the human dimension. They also discussed the intensification of cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including the UN.

The sides noted the great role of regular visits and contacts at various levels, including ministerial meetings, in strengthening bilateral ties. The participants of the consultations highly appreciated the parliamentary diplomacy and agreed on the further development of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries.

During the talks, the diplomats also exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan, as well as discussed issues of cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

Having considered the current state of Turkmen-British trade relations, the parties discussed the possibilities of activating further steps to increase the volume of trade turnover between the countries and, in this regard, fully utilize the potential of the Turkmen-British Trade and Industry Council (TUKTIC).

The participants of the meeting also considered the topic of organizing the Investment Forum of Turkmenistan in London.

The Turkmen-British consultations will continue tomorrow.
