The first-ever conference to discuss the draft global guidelines for regulating digital platforms called "Internet of Trust" has ended in Paris, the UN press service reports.

The three-day event was organized by UNESCO to improve the reliability of information and promote human rights on the Internet. It is the final stage in the development of guidelines for the regulation of digital platforms, which will be presented in September.

The participants, representatives of public and private structures, academia, and civil society agreed on the need to defend the right to search for and receive information in the context of growing disinformation in the Internet space.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay called on all countries to join efforts to turn the Internet into a tool that truly serves society and helps ensure the right to freedom of expression.

It should be noted that the conference gathered more than 4,300 participants, including Brazilian President Luis Inacio da Silva, and the winner of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize Maria Ressa.
