Turkmen scientists who have recently had the successful first experience in sequencing influenza viruses, found out that pathogens of seasonal influenza A (P3N2) most likely entered Turkmenistan from Russia, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan.

The head of the Center for Public Health and Nutrition of Turkmenistan Ashyrmyrat Klychev told about the results of the study in a comment for the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

The study showed that the detected strains are highly sensitive to such medicines as oseltamivir, favipiravir and baloxavir, but at the same time they are not sensitive to rimantadine.

It is reported that Artem Fadeev, an expert of the A.Smorodintsev Influenza Research Institute, acted as a consultant in the conducted experience.

The samples were tested on a new generation Ion S5 sequencer and additional Ion Chef equipment from Fisher Scientific, delivered with the support of the World Health Organization.

The data obtained during laboratory tests are included in the GISAID scientific database (Global Initiative on Sharing Avian Influenza Data), which is the world's largest source of data on influenza genomes.
