The Indian Olympic Association will provide gratuitous medical insurance to current and former athletes who have won medals for the country, Insidethegames reports.

The decision was made at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association, which was held in New Delhi. The advantage can also be taken by athletes who have the potential to successfully perform at international tournaments.

The first step to implement the decision will be consultations with national federations that will nominate candidates for free insurance.
