USAID and partners cooperate on strengthening capacity of social service providers

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), The Office of the United Nations on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Turkmenistan in cooperation with the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan (NRCST), started a three day training seminar on “Providing social services to vulnerable groups of the population with the focus on victim centered and trauma informed approaches” for the employees and volunteers of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan (NRCST).
NRCST has 17 volunteer centers with more than 5,000 volunteers and 40 branches throughout the country. Volunteers from five regions and Ashgabat gathered to learn about the best practices of social work, theories and services provided to vulnerable population, including victims of trafficking in persons.
Trainers of NRCST made a presentation on legislative framework of Turkmenistan on social work and service quality standards and principles, which was followed by a group work on the case management approach in social service delivery.
Trainers from Turkmen NGO “Yenme” presented a session on the introduction of trauma sensitive rights-based services to victims of trafficking and combating trafficking in person. The social work practitioners gained practical knowledge on prevention issues and methods of working with families of migrants and victims of human trafficking.
Additionally, the participants gained an opportunity to learn about the work of NRCST in addressing the needs of vulnerable population and ways to approach their services.
The event was an excellent platform of communication and forming a pool of certified trainers among the volunteers and employees of the NRCST who would further introduce and expand the received knowledge and conduct trainings for NRCST employees in other regions of the country.
Similar training will be conducted for velayat and etrap NRCS volunteers and staff, as a second stage of the initiative. Finally, similar training sessions will be provided for all active partners from government organizations, involved in social work to create working groups.
