At the end of 2022, Russia reduced gas production to 673.8 billion cubic meters, export - by 25.1%, up to 184.4 billion cubic meters. This was announced in an article for the Energy Policy magazine by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, TASS reports.

In 2021, gas production in Russia amounted to 762.8 billion cubic meters, thus the decrease was 11.66%. According to Novak, the decline in production and exports is due to the refusal of European countries to buy Russian gas, as well as sabotage on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.

Novak added that the country continues the planned commissioning of fields. “At the same time, during the year, gas supplies to China were actively increasing. Records for the daily transportation of Russian gas through the Power of Siberia gas pipeline were repeatedly updated. As a result, gas supplies to China through the Power of Siberia increased by 48% and reached a historical maximum at 15.4 billion cubic meters," he added.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the country attaches particular importance to the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production. According to him, LNG exports increased by 7.9% last year and reached 45.7 billion cubic meters. "The world gas market is becoming as global as possible, so in the future, due to mobility, liquefied gas will become more and more in demand." Novak stressed.

He explained that Russia is also working on the technological development of the industry, primarily on the creation of domestic gas liquefaction complexes. 1 billion rubles have been allocated for these purposes.
