An information collection has been published for the anniversary of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia
The UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia has released an information collection "RCPDCA: 15 years of activity in the region" in honor of the 15th anniversary of its establishment. This is reported on the website of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN.
The information collection introduces the main directions of the Center's work, its mandate, large-scale projects that have been implemented and are being implemented at the present time, as well as the achievements of the organization over the years of its existence.
The UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia was established in 2007 on the initiative of the Governments of five Central Asian states with headquarters in Ashgabat as a special mission of the UN Department of Political Affairs and Peace-building. It is the first UN agency dedicated to preventive diplomacy with a political mandate covering the entire region.
The Center promotes dialogue between the governments of the Central Asian states in finding solutions to emerging problems and removing potential threats; supports regular contacts with international organizations operating in the region in encouraging their peacekeeping efforts and initiatives; coordination and exchange of information on joint efforts to prevent conflicts; cooperation with other UN agencies working in the field of sustainable development and prevention conflicts.
The Regional Centre is an example of the political engagement and preventive efforts of the United Nations in support of Member States.
