Computer literacy courses for those aged 50+ have started in Yerevan. The main "heroes" of the social project are the elderly, who are taught free of charge how to adapt to the Internet space and how to use electronic services, Mir24 says.

In the classroom, they learn to watch movies on the Internet and read e-books, search for recipes and other information. For example, earlier, to pay bills, pensioners stood in long lines at the bank. For four classes on special courses, their lives have changed.

The classes “opened up” the virtual world to many elderly people – they can register and use social networks while sitting at home, open bank accounts on their own or pay for rent, for studies, for utilities, the authors of the project say.

The courses are free and last for two months. They are held by the Armenian-Indian Center for Information and Telecommunication Technologies. The project turned out to be successful, as evidenced by the huge number of people who want to get into the lessons. To do this, they need to register and stand in line.

The center plans to open computer literacy courses in other regions of Armenia as well.
