A resident of the city of Bayramaly handed over a rare gold coin to the fund of the Mary Museum of Local Lore in Turkmenistan.

As the staff of the Mary Museum of Local Lore told ORIENT, a rare coin of Arabic coinage dates back to the 7th-10th centuries AD during the existence of the Abbasid Caliphate. The weight of the gold coin is 4.25 grams.

The museum's specialists have already managed to recognize that the back of the coin contains sayings from the Koran.

Probably, this artifact repeats the appearance of the Umayyad gold coins (the dynasty overthrown by the Abbasids in the 8th century), only the name of the caliph of the Abbasid dynasty is indicated on the obverse.

The museum reported that the work on the study of the valuable artifact will continue.

A resident of Bayramaly discovered a rare coin on the bank of the Murgab River near the house and took it to the Mary Museum of Local History.
