Broadway melodies enchanted Ashgabat audience


A concert with the participation of Broadway artists Kate Bass and Aaron Yang was held on Friday in Ashgabat at the Mukams Palace. The State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan under the baton of conductor Rasul Klychev, as well as students of the Turkmen National Conservatory named after Maya Kuliyeva and artists of the State Choir participated in the joint musical project.

The concert program included works from the cult Broadway musicals West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera, Pirates of the Caribbean and others. American artists performed many compositions together with Turkmen musicians.

“The Embassy of the United States is pleased to present the Turkmen-American Broadway music concert to the Ashgabat community with the participation of two famous performers Kate Bass and Aaron Yang, who came to Ashgabat as part of the American Music Abroad program. During the week, the artists rehearsed with the state orchestra and other Turkmen musicians, establishing intercultural communication and connecting people through concerts, joint performances, lectures and seminars,” US Ambassador to Turkmenistan Matthew S. Klimow said opening the concert.

Broadway artists came to Turkmenistan under the US State Department's American Music Abroad program, coordinated by the American Voices Association. The goal of the project is to establish an intercultural dialogue and convey to listeners from different countries the rich musical art of America.
