Uzbekistan and India to hold military exercises in Indian mountains


The servicemen of Uzbekistan and India will hold a joint exercise "Friendship" in the mountains of the Indian state of Uttarakhand, the press service of the Uzbek Ministry of Defense reported on Tuesday.
"A group of 45 servicemen from Uzbekistan arrived in New Delhi to participate in the Uzbek-Indian Friendship-2023 exercise," the Defense Ministry's Telegram channel said in a statement.
According to the agency, the exercises will be held on the basis of one of the Indian military units stationed in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, which is characterized by mountainous terrain. Joint maneuvers will last until March 5.
According to the scenario of the exercises, the military will search for and destroy mock terrorist groups, and will also overcome mountain obstacles and conduct military operations in mountainous and wooded areas.
The current joint exercises for the military of Uzbekistan and India will be the fourth in recent years. For the first time they took place in November 2019 at a training ground in the Tashkent region, then in March 2021 - in the jungle of the Indian province of Ranikhet, in March 2022 - in the desert of the Khorezm region in northwestern Uzbekistan.
