Preparation of the national report on the fourth cycle of the UPR was discussed in Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan is preparing a national report on the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), according to a press release from the UNDP office in Turkmenistan.
The first draft of the document was considered at a two-day seminar with the participation of members of the Working Group of the Interdepartmental Commission on the Implementation of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law.
International expert Thomas Baranovas also took part in the discussions. As part of the preparation of the report, he held separate meetings with representatives of civil society in Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan participates in dialogues on the universal periodic review, during which it receives recommendations on improving the national human rights protection system.
"The Universal Periodic Review is a unique process that includes a periodic review of the human rights situation in all 193 UN member States," said Tomica Paovich, Deputy Permanent Representative of UNDP in Turkmenistan.
