Turkmenistan-UNESCO: cooperation in the field of education
On February 16, with the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture, the signing ceremony of the Agreements on creating UNESCO departments "Cultural Heritage: From Past to Future" at Magtymguly Turkmen State University and "Environmental Education for Sustainable Development" at Seyitnazar Seydi Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute was held.
The event, which was held digitally in the conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was attended by UNESCO Deputy Director-General Stefania Giannini, executive secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, heads of relevant ministries and universities.
Issues related to the opening of UNESCO Chairs at Magtymguly TSU and S. Seidi TSPI were discussed during the meetings of the National Commission for UNESCO held on January 29 and April 23, 2022, and also on February 6, 2023.
After the documents were signed by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, their electronic copies were received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Today, in accordance with the Order of the President of Turkmenistan, the original Agreements were signed by the rector of TSU and the rector of TSPI.
The creation of these clubs is of great importance, first of all, from the standpoint of the comprehensive formation and development of creative and search activities, knowledge about the cultural values, traditions and customs of their country among the youth.
The activities of UNESCO clubs contribute to the expansion of the worldview of students, the improvement of the language experience.
The creation of UNESCO Chairs in Turkmen universities is of particular importance in the context of the celebration in 2023 of the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNESCO.
